Propaganda

McClintock's essay was very comprehensive and she was able to tackle most of the techniques advertisers use in their propaganda. One thing I could add though is the use of repetition and the use of catchy phrases and sounds to make sure their advertisement is memorable.

Recently, the University of the Philippines held its annual elections for various student council positions.  One technique the candidates use is to repeat their nicknames at least thrice before they say their last names. This may seen ridiculous to most, but that is one way of making them and their names memorable. After all, you are most likely to vote for someone you remember especially if you do not know any of the candidates personally.

Using catchy sounds and beats is another way of making sure people remember your advertisement. Oftentimes, people will recognize the music and automatically think of where they heard it from then they will remember the advertisement. The music does not really need to have anything to do with the product or service being advertised. Something funny, unique and catchy will stick in people's minds and along with it the advertisement.
