Reaction to Propaganda Techniques in Today's Advertising by Ann McClintock

Our global and technological world has surely been very beneficial to advertisements and they are advertising. More than ever, today's world has numerous venues and outlets for people to advertise something and it reaches their target audience faster than ever before. Advertisements can be seen on television, billboards, newspapers and magazines. They can be heard on the radio and they can be found on walls, buses and walkways. Truly there is no escaping the propaganda used in advertising.

The essay talks about the numerous techniques advertisers use to make there product or service more appealing. No matter what it is they are selling, their product or service is always the best and exactly what you want, even if it isn't. Propaganda is the tool to make all of that happen. The propaganda techniques can be used to make their product shine above the rest. They can use vague terms with positive connotations, hire famous people with good reputations for vouch for their product or make it seem like the product is made especially for them, with their best interest at heart. On the other hand, propaganda can be used to put down a competitor. This is to make the other product seem unappealing by using words with negative connotations. It can also be used to pressure people into buying their product or availing of their services because " everyone else who matter are".

Indeed, propaganda in advertising influence people in so many aspects of their lives and in so many possible ways. Everywhere you go, you are consciously and unconsciously being subjected to a bombardment of advertisements. We must learn to pick out which are telling the whole truth and which are unreliable.
